Caring for Your Equipment at the End of the Season

Posted by Vertical Drop on

The end of snowboarding and skiing season is here, and you’ve likely just finished enjoying your last trip to the mountains or maybe have one more trip scheduled before mountains close their doors to mountain town bums across the United States. Now that the season has ended, it’s time to make sure that your equipment is packed away and cared for so that it is in the best condition it could be in when the season starts up again. At Vertical Drop, we know that every equipment purchase that you make is one that you consider an investment, so we want to make sure that you make the most of them. Here are a few things to do before you throw everything to that corner in your garage or to collect dust in the basement.

Tune Up

Having your equipment tuned up is something that you won’t regret doing, seriously. If you’ve had your skis or snowboard waxed after a season, and you take them out for the first ride of the season, then you know there’s never been a time where you regret having this done. Have all of those scratches buffered out and get that smooth surface that makes plunging down the mountain an incredible experience. Remember, however, that if you don’t have experience tuning up equipment or waxing your equipment, then you should go to a local shop or sporting goods store and see if they offer this service. It doesn’t take very long, but it’s always worth looking into in advance.

As we mentioned before, this equipment is an investment, and we know that. So why not treat it like one? Rather than let your equipment wind up in a place where it could fall, get damaged or collect dust, make sure that you have a good case to put it into. Now, it doesn’t have to be a hard case, but putting it in a case that can protect the paint and overall piece, and then placing it in your basement or garage in a spot where it isn’t likely for anything to fall on it or damage it, you are immediately less likely to experience any damage.

With the storing process comes the organizing process. This doesn’t require a ton of work, but again, is something you’ll be glad you did. If you live in a state that has pretty drastic changes in seasons, then you’ll know how difficult it is to find everything that you need during that first trip of the season. It’s something we’ve all struggled with; you’ve got the pants but no jacket, and there’s one glove over here but you have no idea where to even start looking for your goggles. Minimize this issue by organizing all of your gear and clothing into one tupperware. These large tubs are pretty inexpensive, but can make a huge different once the season starts up. Make sure that everything you place in there - jacket, pants, gloves, hats, boots, goggles and wool socks - are all dry before they get tucked and sealed away. Then label them clearly so that you know exactly which tub to look in or bring along for the trip. You’ll be so glad that you did.

Vertical Drop is glad that we were able to provide you with all of the high quality ski and snowboarding equipment that you needed right here on our online snowboard store.
